That I like the BMW X1.
In person it has good proportions. It is roughly the same size as a Golf, but with a little added ground clearance that would make it perfect for snow.

The first time I saw one in person I was surprised at how small it was. My dad's Mercury is bigger than it. That shocked me. Of course I'm used to X3 and X5's all over.

Nope, I really like these. I see a good amount of them too.

I like it too. I mostly like the fact that it's not bigger than it needs to be and seems to be pretty popular. I'm all for small cross overs if it means less large cross overs and SUVs.

I like it but just wish it a wee bit more ground clearance.

it's....less bad then the other X bimmers

They are pretty good looking and a size that isn't silly.
On that note, saw my first Porsche Macan today. That thing is good looking (around same size as X1)

Everyone I know with an X3 or X5 or 3 series AWD says it's garbage in snow.

So ugly

I saw one the other day and didn't hate it as much as I was expecting. It's much smaller in person. That being said, I would prefer it as an honest five door.

They are probably thinking AWD=indestructible in snow.
![]() 11/12/2014 at 21:51 |

No. You're not wrong. It's a cool car. I really like it. Especially in xDrive35i Sport Trim in Valencia Orange with Black Nevada Leather. With that being said, I also like the new Audi Q3.
![]() 11/12/2014 at 21:51 |

Maybe but the proportions seem so right the way it is.
![]() 11/12/2014 at 21:52 |

Not ALL of them. Some of them are experienced drivers who have had 4WD vehicles in the past.

That perfect for snow argument is one that's hard to explain to many people. I included, have never experienced snow where a couple extra inches will make any honest difference. It just doesn't snow like that in this area so in my eyes it's just a little added ground clearance to make it more wobbly and harder to get into.
If that's your thing though, you're not wrong for liking it.

I feel this is a perfect size for the crossover. Same with the Buick Encore. Neither vehicle pretends to be anything more than what it is.
![]() 11/12/2014 at 21:53 |

It does have good proportions. It's also smaller than I originally thought - I like small cars.

Your dissenting opinion is valued. Please elaborate.
![]() 11/12/2014 at 21:56 |

True and that might be why I liked it. For a crossover it isn't a big pile of bloat.
![]() 11/12/2014 at 21:57 |

The front end, the sides, the back, nothing is proportioned right or flow together.
![]() 11/12/2014 at 21:57 |

This size of crossover is the best yet. (that doesn't say much but you know what I mean)
![]() 11/12/2014 at 21:57 |

The Encore is a decent size but looks a little out of proportion to me. Like it got squished from the front and back.

I have experienced such snow (I live in MN). I had a Buick LeSabre and it high-centered on the snow because it sat so low stock.

AWD doesn't matter if all the power goes to the spinning wheel(s)

It isn't the best BMW nose I will admit, but to my eye the package as a whole works.
![]() 11/12/2014 at 22:03 |

Different design aims perhaps. The Buick, to me, looks like a better fit in a dense urban center. The Bimmer meanwhile works best in suburban areas.

AWD doesn't matter if the car is upside down.
![]() 11/12/2014 at 22:06 |

I probably exaggerated when I said perfect. But the increased ground clearance will help. I drive only RWD in snow, 4x4/AWD is a bit overrated.

You need this.

Well thanks!
Of course many internet folks would make that (being the small penis) accusation anyway, because I own a truck I don't really use as a truck, much. OH WELL. They are idiots. I bought it because I wanted it. Also GLORIOUS CHROME!

DAT SILVERADO
Funny story, a few weeks ago I was driving with my Dad and we passed by a brand new Silverado. He said "That looks like my '95 Tahoe I had back then! That pickup sure aged well." "Dad, that's the new, redesigned Silverado. It does look a lot like the 90s ones though."
Which is a good thing. I love the way the 90s GM full size trucks and SUVs looked.

They sort of combined the 80's and 90's looks and modernized them. Looks really good. The GMC looks like a modern take of the 70's models.

but then...
THEY SHOULD'VE PUT THE FRONT ENDS OF THE SILVERADO/SIERRA ON THE TAHOE/SUBURBAN/YUKON/YUKON XL
This infuriates me. I mean, look how good this looks.

That is a great color, but I like my blues. Therefore the above example.

I have '13 X1 2.8i xDrive (they need to work on naming). I love the turbo 6 in the 3.5 but they won't put the new 8 speed gear box or a manual with it. Get an M235i if you want that motor. You can even get that with xDrive.
The X1 did great through a Minnesota winter last year. I guess if you got the summer performance tires rather than all seasons it would suck balls. Not really the cars fault though. Our current 528i xDrive is pretty fun when it snows too. M-Sport rims but all season tires. I'd really like to try some true winter tires on one of the cars but can't justify the expense right now.
My wife had an 11' 328i xDrive with a 6 speed. We really miss that car but the X1 is almost as fun and fills my "I need a wagon" spot.
Ours is pretty basic but the lease payments are less than they would have been on a GTI with the same money down.
Last comment, get it in black or get it Msport so you don't need to deal with the clashing black plastic exterior trim.

I too live in MN. I couldn't care less for AWD, but I know the ground clearance is quite a good thing. The M sport looks good on this but this color combo is really good.

I am not a big BMW fan, but the proportions of the X1 really work for me. I wouldn't turn one down.

I've got the X1 xDrive 35i....a 300hp slightly raised wagon? Hellz to the yeah.

Me too.
